Gaumukh Temple (Vashistha Ashram) Travel Guide

Many sages and seers were known to have their retreats on Mt. Abu, the most famous being sage Vashistha. It was here that the sage performed the ancient yagna from which the Rajput clans, Agnikula, are said to have sprung. A natural spring that flows through a sculpted cow's head gives the shrine its name. Nearby, is the marble image of Nandi who is said to have been rescued by the mighty serpent 'Arbuda'.
