Kali Paltan Mandir, also known as the temple of Augarnath is a little-known place of worship but of great historical importance. The temple has played a significant role during the struggle for freedom and more particularly the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857. The ‘Shiva linga’ present in this temple emerged on its own – a miracle that has been attracting the followers of Lord Shiva ever since its inception. The present deity here is Lord Shiva and hence draws the huge crowd during the festivals such as Shivratri, Poornima, and Amavas. In the present time, the Augharnath Temple stands as the oldest shiva temple in the city of Meerut.
